Who knew I am coeliac?

I always thought I was someone who could eat anything. I prided myself on not being fussy. Happily trying all sorts of foods in all sorts of places.

This changed in June 2018. An innocent visit to my GP in Adelaide led to a series of blood tests. I didn’t pay too much attention to what was being tested. When I returned to the GP a week or so later to get the results he asked me if I ever had pain after eating bread. I said no. He was surprised because he said my blood results showed me off the charts for coeliac disease, but we’d only know for sure once I had an endoscopy. I was stunned. This wasn’t something I ever thought I’d have.

Anyway, the GP referred me to a specialist who also told me I needed an endoscopy. I was sure it would show the blood test was wrong.

But it didn’t. So started the journey of trying to work out how to enjoy food and drink as a coeliac.

This blog shares my experiences trying to find good options. It’s not medical or health advice. It’s not really any kind of advice. It’s just my personal experiences.
